Worcester canoe clubs vision and aims

WCC aims to be an inclusive, community club which welcomes anyone with an interest in canoe sports. We help our members to meet their canoeing goals, whether these are to compete at any level, or paddle recreationally – for health, wellbeing and to socialise with other paddlers.

April Regatta

The first regatta of the year kicked off on the weekend with a new layout for parking! The weather looked like it was going to be ok early Saturday morning but it’s Nottingham so that was too good to be true! The whole weekend had a strong headwind but this didn’t deter our strong Worcester team from getting some amazing results.

We had 4 women racing, Amy, Emily and Katie in combined Senior/U23 and Evie in U18. Kicking off the whole regatta was the senior 500m k1, Emily and Amy made it through to a stacked final 1 where they came 5th and 9th with Emily improving her result in race 2 (for senior selection they had race offs) coming 2nd, Katie made it into final 2 securing 5th place. Katie then went on to race the 1000m coming 7th in the final.  It was an early one Sunday with K2 500m after it was moved from Monday, Emily and her partner came 2nd with Amy following in 4th and Katie in 7th. The next race was K2 200m where Emily came first followed closer by Amy in 2nd with under a second separating the two. In k1 200m Emily stormed ahead to take the win by 2 seconds with Amy coming in 3rd. The last race of the weekend was the 5k in which Katie came 4th. Evie came 6th in her 500m heat just missing out on a final but later fought through to final 2 of k1 200m to secure herself 5th.

Doogal, Fergus and Louis all were racing in u14 with some amazing results between them in the k2 1000m louis came in 1st with Doogal in a very close 2nd only 1 second separating the 2 and Fergus in 4th. Doogal and Louis then went on to win the k4 500m. The k2 500m saw the same results as the 1000m with Louis, Doogal then Fergus. In k1 500m Louis came in 3rd with Doogal in 6th and Fergus in 9th. Fregus then went on to come 9th in the 200m and Doogal raced up in k4 in u18/16 and came 7th! It should be noted that Fergus was racing in u14 being only 12 so he should be very proud of these results!

Freddy was racing in u16 and had a fantastic regatta making Final 2 in all his k1s, in the 1000m he stormed ahead to win his final, he carried on this form into the 500m to take 2nd and finally 3rd in the 200m. In a tough k2 1000m that was mixed with u18s he took 6th in final 2.

Lochie raced in u18 taking 7th in the 1000m final and 9th in the 500m final in some tough races. He improved this standing in the 200m where he crossed the line in 4th place! In k2s he finished 9th in both the 500m and 1000m finals.

Honourable mention for people that might be interested! Matt had an amazing regatta winning the senior/u23 men’s k2 1000m, 2nd in the k2 500m and 4th in both k1 500m and 1000m!

Hopefully looking at some selections for the 2024 season with these results!

It would be great to see an even bigger team at the June regatta on the 8th/9th so please get in contact with Rach or Dave if you would be interested!

Well done everyone, some great results starting the season strong!

SEPTEMBER REGATTA

SEPTEMBER REGATTA

Last weekend was the last regatta of the year!! It was a bit different this time as we were all parked on the opposite side of the lake! but that didn’t stop the Worcester team having an amazing regatta! We had lots of people out racing an finished 8th in in macgregor paddle challenge! Hopefully in the next few years we can work our way back up to the top 2 like we were in 2009/10.

We had lots of promotions this regatta! Freddie got promoted to boys B after just getting promoted to boys C last regatta!, Doogal and Louis to boys C, Fergus and Finn to boys D and Evie to girls C.

I’ll start with the juniors results and as always I apologise if I’ve missed any out!

Ivan (in his last year as a junior) had a great regatta coming 7th in boys A 1000m final and 3rd in 500m! lochie came 2nd in final 2 of the 1000m and 7th in 500m, he also came 8th in the 200m. In crew boats they both paddled with Exeter paddlers with Ivan coming 3rd and lochie just behind in 5th. Both k2s then combined in k4 to finish 2nd. Ivan also came 1st in mixed k2.

Freddie raced in boys c and came 3rd in 500m, 6th in 200m, 1st in k4, 3rd in k2 1000m and 200m!

Doogal and Louis raced in boys D with Louis winning final 2 of k1 500m with Doogal coming 2nd. Louis also came 9th in k1 200m. In crew boats Doogal came 6th in k2 1000m and 7th in k2 200m. Finn and Louis did k2 together and won final 2 of k2 1000m and 8th in 200m k2 final. Doogal, Fergus, Finn and Louis came 8th in their k4.

In only his second regatta Tom raced in intermediates and came 7th in his k1 500m heat and then did k2 200m in which they came 9th.

Fergus and Finn also raced intermediates with Fergus coming 4th in the k1 500m final with Finn behind in 6th. In k2 Finn came 1st and 2nd in 500m and 200m with Fergus close behind with his partner in 3rd and 5th.

Evie and Tamzin raced in Girls D with Evie winning both of her k1 200m and 500m and Tamzin coming 6th and 7th in her heat. They then combined forces to finish 5th in their k2 heat. Tamzin then hopped in a boat with Louis and they finished 5th in their finals!

And now for the more mature athletes!

Nick, Mark, Geoff and Dave came 5th in their K4 race. Mark and Geoff then split off into a k2 to finish 2nd in their 500m final, with Dave smith and George carn in 5th. Ewan and Dave pedlar came 4th in their k2 final. Dave smith then went solo in k1 finishing 6th in his 200m and 500m heat. George and mark were competing against each other with mark coming 4th and 5th in 200m and 500m final and George 7th and 8th in his first regatta of the year.

Ewan came 7th in his 500m final and 9th in his 200m final in his first regatta in mens B.

Amy, Katie, Rach and Evie came 3rd in k4 500m with Rach and Katie then doing k2 and coming 2nd in k2 500m and 4th in k2 200m. Amy came 4th in the 200m k1 with Katie in 9th and then in 500m Katie came 6th with Amy in 8th.

In the second to last race of the regatta we saw Amy and Nick go head to head with Katie and Dave (chairman) pedlar. In the end Amy and Nick made it to the finish coming 3rd with Katie and Dave just behind in 4th.

It was again a great regatta and was amazing to see that amount of entries we had as a club! I say it every time but it would be great to see more people racing next year no matter your age or standard!! You don’t have to come for the whole weekend and can just enter races on one day if that suits better and hopefully we can finish higher up the table next year! Well done to everyone who raced this year and all the hard work and training you have done to get these amazing results! And thank you to the parents who give up their time take their kids to training and help out.

And that’s the sprint season finished!
